Premier League – Saturday Roundup

Blog Post - Premier League (2.1.14)

With the top 4 idle today in the English Premier League, it was a great chance for Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United to gain some ground.  The results?  Well, about as you’d expect from this season.

The Good: Everton.  After falling behind 1-0 to a first half goal at home to Aston Villa, goals by Naismith and Mirallas got them the victory. , pulling them up into 5th place.

The Not-so-Good: Tottenham Hotspur.  In a relatively balanced against Hull City, the Tigers earned the first half and Spurs winning the second.  However, these 2 dropped points see them miss a chance to get into a 4th place tie with Chelsea who play in Manchester against City on Monday.

The Bad: Manchester United.  Signed Juan Mata.  Got Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie back healthy.  Playing a struggling Stoke. It was all set up to be a good win and a start to their season.  But, in a tough, battling game that saw both sides lose players to tough challenges, the Red Devils lost the game to a fantastic second half strike by Charlie Adam.   Somehow United are still in the picture for that 4th European place, but they simply have to turn this around in the next 2 games.
