With just 6 weeks to go in the Spanish La Liga season, we still believe everything is going to come down to the final match of the season in the Catalan capital.
May 18th, the final day, sees Atletico Madrid head east to take on the defending champions, Barcelona, at the Camp Nou. While there’s always the chance of an upset along the way, Atletico’s path appears to have just one realistic stumbling block – away to Valencia on April 27th. Valencia are sitting just outside the European spots currently, but if they close the gap over the next couple of games then it could be a challenging atmosphere at the Estadio Mestella in a few weeks.
Barcelona, on the other hand, have a slightly tougher stretch run. The April 27th match away at Villarreal and the May 7th fixture at home against Bilbao will really keep Barca on their toes. Throw the Classico Copa del Rey final into the mix and Leo and the boys are going to have to be on their best form to retain their title.
Next up…the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final, with Barca visiting Atletico after a 1-1 first leg!
