Cover Them In Bubble Wrap?

With less than 100 days until the kick-off to the World Cup in Brazil, we think about whether players will try and protect themselves a little more than normal. At this point, any sort of medium-to-serious injury will knock a player out of the tournament.

There are only a few players that are in contention for winning the World Cup with their country and winning something major (league or Champions League) with their club.

The Countries: Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Uruguay.

The Clubs: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Juventus.

So, which players does that cover? Neymar, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero, Oscar, Carlos Tevez, Karim Benzema, Sami Khedira, Xavi, Andres Iniesta

The question is, will these players start pulling out of tackles over the last couple of months? Will clubs consider country potential and rest players? Perhaps teams will fall out of contention and will make it a moot point. It will be interesting to see if the battles for the English and Spanish leagues remain as competitive as they have been through the first 2/3 of the season, and also if the Champions League has a finish like we all hope…
